Public Transportation
From downtown Whitefish, walk to the Whitefish Depot located at 500 Depot St. Take the Flathead Valley Community College Shuttle, which runs regularly to Glacier National Park. Request a stop at the Lake McDonald area. Upon arrival, follow the signs to the lake, which is just a short walk from the shuttle drop-off point.
Bicycle
Rent a bicycle from one of the local bike shops in Whitefish, such as 'Whitefish Bike Retreat'. Start at the corner of Central Ave and 1st St and head south on Central Ave. Follow the bike path that leads towards the north entrance of Glacier National Park. Approximately 18 miles later, you will reach Lake McDonald. Ensure to take breaks at the scenic viewpoints along the way.
Walking
If you're feeling adventurous, you can walk the scenic route from Whitefish to Lake McDonald. Start at the Whitefish City Park, head west on 1st St, then take a left onto Wisconsin Ave which will turn into Hwy 93. Walk 18 miles along the highway; this will take you through beautiful landscapes. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring plenty of water.
