Public Bus
To get to West Glacier from central Whitefish, you can take the Flathead County public bus service. Start at the Whitefish Depot located at 500 Depot Street. Check the bus schedule for the Flathead County Transit, which typically operates on a limited schedule. Board the bus heading towards West Glacier (look for routes labeled 'West Glacier'). The journey will take approximately 30-40 minutes. Make sure to inform the bus driver that you want to stop at West Glacier.
Bicycle
If you prefer to bike, you can rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Whitefish, such as 'Sportsman & Ski Haus' on 3rd Street. From the shop, head south on 3rd Street towards the intersection with Highway 93. Turn left onto Highway 93 and continue riding until you reach the junction with Highway 2. Follow Highway 2 west towards West Glacier. The ride is about 20 miles and will take approximately 2-3 hours depending on your pace. Be sure to wear a helmet and observe traffic rules.
Walking
Walking to West Glacier is quite a long trek, approximately 20 miles from Whitefish, so this option is only recommended for very adventurous tourists. Start at the Whitefish Depot, and head south towards Highway 93. Once you reach Highway 93, turn left and walk along the shoulder of the road heading south until you reach the intersection with Highway 2. Continue walking on Highway 2 westbound towards West Glacier. Be prepared for a long walk and carry enough water and snacks along the way.
