Getting There

• Walking

  From the Medina of Fes, start at Bab Boujloud (Blue Gate), the main entrance to the old city. Walk straight through the pedestrian streets of the Medina, following the signs for 'Tannery' or 'Chouara Tannery'. After about 15-20 minutes of walking, you will reach a viewpoint overlooking the tannery. Here, you can take some photos. Continue on the same path until you see the sign for the Merinid Necropole. The path becomes steeper, and you will walk uphill for around 10 minutes. The Necropole is located on a hill offering panoramic views of Fes.

• Walking

  Alternatively, you can take a more scenic route by walking to the Parc Jnane Sbil, which is near Bab Boujloud. From the park, follow the path that leads up to the hills. This route is a bit longer but offers a beautiful view of the gardens. Continue along the path until you reach the Merinide Necropole. Expect around 30-40 minutes of walking time from the park.

• Walking Tour

  If you prefer a guided experience, consider joining a walking tour that includes the Merinide Necropole. Many local guides offer tours starting from the Medina. They will take you through the historical sites, including local markets, and provide insights about the culture and history of Fes, culminating in a visit to the Necropole. These tours typically last a few hours.

• Public Transport

  While public transport directly to the Merinide Necropole is limited, you can take a taxi or a local bus to the nearest drop-off point. From the Medina, ask for a taxi to the nearest point to the Necropole. Make sure to agree on the fare beforehand. Once you are dropped off, it is about a 15-minute walk uphill to the Necropole.
