Contes du désert: A Journey Through the Sahara

Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start from Mhamid, the nearest town to Contes du désert. From Mhamid, head south on Route N12 towards the Sahara Desert. After approximately 10 kilometers, look for a left turn onto a smaller unpaved road that leads towards Contes du désert. Follow the signs, and you should reach the destination in about 30 minutes, depending on the road conditions. Make sure to have enough fuel, as there are limited services in the desert.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, take a bus from Marrakech to Mhamid. This journey can take around 12 hours, so plan accordingly. Once in Mhamid, you can hire a local taxi or a shared taxi (known as 'grand taxi') to take you directly to Contes du désert. The taxi ride will take about 30 minutes, and the fare can range from 100 to 200 MAD depending on negotiation. Ensure you agree on the price before starting your journey.

• Walking

  If you are already in the vicinity of Contes du désert and prefer walking, be prepared for a hike across the desert landscape. From Mhamid, you can walk towards the south for around 10 kilometers, following the main dirt tracks. It is advisable to carry plenty of water and wear appropriate hiking gear, as the temperatures can be quite high during the day.
