Getting There

• Car

  From the main town of Manica Province, head southeast on the EN1 highway. Continue driving for approximately 100 kilometers until you reach the entrance of the Maputo Special Reserve, which is located at Km 84 on the EN1. Look for signs indicating the entrance to the reserve. The road is generally well maintained, but be cautious of potholes and other vehicles, especially if driving during the rainy season. Note that there may be a small entrance fee to access the reserve, so be prepared with cash.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Maputo Special Reserve via public transport, first, you need to get to the nearest major town, which is Chimoio. From Chimoio, find a local bus or shared taxi heading towards Maputo. Inform the driver that you need to stop at Km 84 on the EN1 highway for the Maputo Special Reserve. Depending on the bus schedule, you may need to wait for a while. The fare is usually low, but keep some cash handy for the transaction. Once you reach Km 84, you may need to walk about 1-2 kilometers to the entrance of the reserve.

• Taxi

  If you prefer a more direct route without the hassle of public transport, consider hiring a taxi from Chimoio or any nearby town. Negotiate the fare before the trip; it might cost more than public transport but will take you directly to the entrance of the Maputo Special Reserve at Km 84 on the EN1. Ensure the driver is familiar with the location as it can be less known. Taxi rides may also incur additional costs based on distance and time taken.
