Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from Mawlamyine, head north on the Yangon-Mawlamyine Road (also known as National Route 9). After approximately 20 kilometers, take the exit towards Hpa-An. Continue for another 30 kilometers until you reach the town of Hpa-An. From Hpa-An, follow the signs to Sin Phyu Taung (White Elephant Mountain). The final stretch involves a winding road leading uphill to the mountain. Make sure to check your fuel levels before starting your journey, as there may not be many gas stations on the route.

• Public Transportation

  Begin your journey in Mawlamyine by taking a local bus to Hpa-An. Buses leave frequently, and the fare is around 3,000 MMK (Myanmar Kyat). The journey takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. Upon arriving in Hpa-An, you can hire a taxi or a motorbike taxi to Sin Phyu Taung. The taxi fare to the mountain is approximately 5,000-10,000 MMK, depending on your negotiation skills. Be sure to ask the driver if they know the way to White Elephant Mountain, as some might need directions.

• Motorbike Rental

  For those seeking a more adventurous route, consider renting a motorbike in Mawlamyine. Rental fees are about 10,000 MMK per day. Head north on the Yangon-Mawlamyine Road, and follow the same route as if you were driving a car. Ensure you have a valid driver’s license and wear a helmet. The ride can be exhilarating, but be cautious of road conditions and local traffic. Once you reach Hpa-An, continue to follow the signs to Sin Phyu Taung.

  Another option is to book a local tour that includes transportation from Mawlamyine or Hpa-An to White Elephant Mountain. Many local travel agencies offer packages that include a guide, transport, and sometimes meals. Prices vary, so it is advisable to compare a few options.
