Car
From any location in Kaokoland, head towards the main road leading south towards the town of Opuwo. Continue on this road until you reach the junction with the C39 road. Turn left onto the C39, which will take you towards the Skeleton Coast National Park. Follow the C39 for approximately 120 kilometers, keeping an eye out for the park's entrance signs. Be prepared for rough and unpaved sections as you approach the park's entrance. Ensure your vehicle is equipped for such terrain, and check that you have enough fuel, as there are few fuel stations in the area.
Public Transportation
If you're using public transportation, your best option is to take a bus or shuttle service from Opuwo to the Skeleton Coast. First, travel to Opuwo from your location in Kaokoland, which may involve taking a local taxi or shared shuttle. In Opuwo, look for bus services that head towards the Skeleton Coast. Confirm the schedule in advance, as services may be limited. Upon arrival at the park's entrance, you may need to arrange for a local taxi or guide to take you further into the park, as public transport options within the park itself are very limited.
Guided Tour
For a more comprehensive experience, consider booking a guided tour that includes transportation from your accommodation in Kaokoland to Skeleton Coast National Park. Many tour operators provide all-inclusive packages that cover transportation, park entrance fees, and guided exploration of the park. This option is particularly beneficial for those unfamiliar with the area, as guides can provide valuable insights and ensure a safe journey.
