Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you are driving, start from Rundu, the largest town in Kavango East. Head northeast on the B10 highway towards Katima Mulilo. After approximately 80 kilometers, turn onto the C48 road, which leads to the Khaudum National Park entrance. The park is located about 40 kilometers from the turn-off. Be cautious as the road can be rough and may require a 4x4 vehicle. Fuel up in Rundu as there are no fuel stations near the park.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a bus from Rundu to Katima Mulilo. Upon arrival, you will need to find a local taxi or shuttle service that can take you to the entrance of Khaudum National Park. Make sure to arrange this in advance, as options may be limited. Confirm the fare with the driver before the journey, as it may vary depending on the number of passengers and distance traveled.
Guided Tour
Consider joining a guided tour that departs from Rundu or nearby towns. These tours often include transportation to and from Khaudum National Park, park fees, and a guided experience within the park. This can enhance your visit and provide insights into the local wildlife and ecosystem. Be sure to inquire about the cost, which typically includes transportation, meals, and park entry fees.
Accommodation
If you plan to stay overnight at Khaudum National Park, book accommodations ahead of time. There are campsites available within the park but limited facilities. Make sure to bring your own camping gear and food supplies. Check with the park office for any fees associated with camping.
