Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you are traveling by car, you will want to start your journey in Kuneneland. Head southwest towards the B1 highway, which is the main route through Namibia. Once you reach the B1, turn onto it and continue south for approximately 350 kilometers. This route will take you through several towns and scenic landscapes. Keep an eye out for road signs directing you towards the NamibRand Nature Reserve. After about 350 kilometers, take the exit towards the C19 road, which will lead you directly to the entrance of the reserve. The total drive may take around 5 to 6 hours depending on traffic and road conditions.
Public Transportation
For those opting for public transportation, your best option is to take a bus from Kuneneland to Windhoek, the capital city of Namibia. Buses run regularly, and the journey typically takes about 5 to 6 hours. Once in Windhoek, you will need to find a bus that travels towards the NamibRand Nature Reserve or, alternatively, take a taxi to the nearest town with access to the reserve. Be sure to check the bus schedules in advance as they may vary. After reaching the nearest town, you may need to hire a taxi or a shuttle service to reach the reserve's entrance, which could incur additional costs.
Taxi or Shuttle Service
If you reach Windhoek and need to proceed to the NamibRand Nature Reserve, you can hire a taxi or shuttle service. This option is particularly convenient if you are traveling with luggage or in a group. Make sure to negotiate the fare before starting your journey, as prices can vary. Expect to pay around N$ 1,500 to N$ 2,500 for a taxi ride from Windhoek to the reserve, which takes approximately 4 to 5 hours. Booking a shuttle service in advance may provide you with a more fixed price and reliable transportation.
