If you are traveling by car, start your journey from the nearby town of Sesriem. From Sesriem, take the C19 road heading south towards Sossusvlei. After about 60 kilometers, you will reach the entrance to the Namib-Naukluft National Park. There is an entrance fee of approximately N$ 80 per person (as of 2023), so be prepared to pay. Continue on the park road for about 30 kilometers. Follow the signs leading to Sossusvlei. Once you reach the Sossusvlei parking area, park your vehicle and proceed to Big Mamma Dune, which is approximately a 2-kilometer hike from the parking area. Look for the prominent sand dune and follow the path towards it.

For those using public transportation, you will need to take a shuttle or bus service from Windhoek to Sesriem. Several companies offer this service, and the cost ranges from N$ 400 to N$ 600. Once you arrive in Sesriem, you can either hire a taxi or join a guided tour that will take you into the Namib-Naukluft National Park. If opting for a guided tour, confirm that it includes a visit to Sossusvlei and Big Mamma Dune. Note that tours may vary in price, so check in advance. Upon reaching the Sossusvlei parking area, you will need to hike approximately 2 kilometers to reach Big Mamma Dune.
