Embark on the Majestic Upper Dolpo Trek

Getting There

• Car Rental

  If you are starting from the capital city of Kathmandu, you can rent a car to drive to Dolpo. The journey from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj takes approximately 12-14 hours. From Nepalgunj, you will need to take another vehicle to Juphal, which may take around 4-6 hours. Once you reach Juphal, you can either trek or hire a local guide to take you to Saldang, the starting point for the Upper Dolpo Trek.

• Public Bus

  Take a public bus from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj. This bus ride takes approximately 12-14 hours, and buses leave from various stations in Kathmandu. From Nepalgunj, you can catch a local bus or jeep to Juphal, which will take an additional 4-6 hours. Ensure to check the bus schedules ahead of time as they can vary. Upon reaching Juphal, you can start your trek to Saldang, which is the gateway to the Upper Dolpo Trek.

• Domestic Flight

  For a quicker option, consider taking a domestic flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj (approx. 1 hour). From Nepalgunj, you will then take a flight to Juphal, which takes about 35-40 minutes. Once you arrive in Juphal, you can begin your trek to Saldang to access the Upper Dolpo Trek. Remember to book flights in advance as they can fill up quickly, especially during peak trekking seasons.

• Trekking

  After reaching Juphal, you will need to trek to Saldang, which is the nearest village to the Upper Dolpo Trek. The trek from Juphal to Saldang is about 4-5 days, depending on your pace and the routes taken. It is advised to hire a local guide who is familiar with the terrain and can provide assistance along the way.
