Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from Kathmandu to Kanchenjunga Base Camp, you will first need to head east on the Prithvi Highway (Highway 1) towards the town of Bhadrapur. This journey takes approximately 12-14 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. Once you reach Bhadrapur, you will need to drive to Taplejung. The road from Bhadrapur to Taplejung is quite winding and takes about 6-8 hours. Ensure you have enough fuel and supplies, as services may be limited along the route. Upon reaching Taplejung, you can find parking for your vehicle near the town center.

• Public Transportation (Bus)

  To reach Kanchenjunga Base Camp via public transportation, start from Kathmandu by taking a tourist bus to Bhadrapur. Buses leave from various terminals in Kathmandu, including the Gongabu Bus Park. This journey takes about 12-14 hours. From Bhadrapur, you will need to take a local bus or shared jeep to reach Taplejung; this trip takes an additional 6-8 hours. Once in Taplejung, you can hire a local guide or porter to help you with the trek to Kanchenjunga Base Camp.

• Trekking

  After reaching Taplejung, the trek to Kanchenjunga Base Camp begins. The trek typically takes around 10-12 days, depending on your pace and itinerary. You will start from Taplejung and pass through several villages such as Mitlung, Chhirwa, and Suketar, following the trail alongside the Ghunsa River. Ensure you have proper trekking permits, and consider hiring a local guide for navigation and support. Accommodation options along the trek include guesthouses and teahouses, but it is advisable to carry some camping gear in case of limited availability.
