Car
If you are traveling by car from Kathmandu, take the Araniko Highway (Route 1) towards Bhaktapur. The distance is about 13 kilometers and will take approximately 30 minutes depending on traffic. Upon reaching Bhaktapur, follow the signs to Durbar Square. There are parking areas available near the square, but be prepared to pay a small fee (around NPR 50-100) for parking.
Public Bus
To reach Bhaktapur Durbar Square via public transportation, head to the bus station in Kathmandu, specifically the Ratna Park area. Look for a bus marked 'Bhaktapur' or 'Bhaktapur Durbar Square'. The fare is typically around NPR 35-50. The bus ride will take about 1 hour, depending on traffic. Once you arrive at the Bhaktapur bus park, it’s a short 15-minute walk to Durbar Square. Follow the signs directing you towards the square.
Taxi
Taxis are a convenient option for reaching Bhaktapur Durbar Square directly. You can hail a taxi from anywhere in Kathmandu. Make sure to negotiate the fare beforehand; it should cost around NPR 1,500-2,000 for a one-way trip. The journey will take approximately 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic. The driver will drop you off close to the entrance of Durbar Square.
Rickshaw
For a more unique experience, you can take a cycle rickshaw from the center of Kathmandu to Bhaktapur. It's a less common option but offers a scenic ride. Negotiate the fare upfront, which can range from NPR 1,000-1,500. The journey will take about 1 hour, and you’ll be dropped off near the entrance of Durbar Square.
