Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are starting from the Thamel area, walk towards the 'Pradarshani Marg' street and head north. Continue on this road until you reach the intersection with 'Durbar Marg'. Cross the street and keep walking straight until you reach 'Kantipath'. From there, you can take a right turn onto 'Kantipath' which will lead you to 'New Road'. Follow 'New Road' until you reach 'Ratna Park'. At Ratna Park, look for 'Bhaktapur Bus Stand' where you can catch a local bus heading towards Budhanilkantha. The bus fare should be around NPR 30. Disembark at the Budhanilkantha stop and walk up the hill following the signs towards Kopan Monastery, which is approximately a 20-minute walk uphill.

  • Public Bus

    From the Ratna Park area, locate the public buses that head towards Budhanilkantha. Look for buses labeled 'Budhanilkantha' or 'Kopan Monastery' (though the latter may not always be available). Ensure to ask the bus conductor if you are unsure. The journey takes about 30-40 minutes depending on traffic. Once you reach the Budhanilkantha stop, get off and walk in the direction of Kopan Monastery, following the uphill path for about 20 minutes. Keep an eye out for directional signs along the way.

  • Microbus

    You can take a microbus from the 'New Bus Park' area in Kathmandu, which is located near the Ratna Park area. Microbuses are smaller and often faster than regular buses. Look for a microbus with a sign that says 'Budhanilkantha'. The fare is usually around NPR 50. Once you get to Budhanilkantha, follow the same directions as above: exit the bus and walk uphill towards Kopan Monastery for about 20 minutes.
