Getting There

• Bus

  From Kathmandu, head to the Ratna Park Bus Station, which is centrally located and easily accessible. Look for buses heading to Bhaktapur; they are frequent and inexpensive. The fare is usually around NPR 50-100. Board the bus, which will take you directly to Bhaktapur. The journey takes approximately 1 hour depending on traffic. Once you arrive at the Bhaktapur bus station, exit the bus and follow the signs to Bhaktapur Durbar Square, which is about a 15-minute walk from the bus station. You will walk through the local streets, passing by shops and local eateries.

• Microbus

  You can also take a microbus from various locations in Kathmandu. Head to the New Bus Park area, where you will find microbuses heading to Bhaktapur. The fare is generally around NPR 50, and the journey time is similar to that of a regular bus, around 1 hour. Disembark at the Bhaktapur bus station and make your way towards Bhaktapur Durbar Square, which is about a 15-minute walk from there.

• Cycle Rickshaw

  If you're looking for a more personalized approach, you can hire a cycle rickshaw from any central location in Kathmandu. Negotiate the fare beforehand; it should cost you around NPR 1500-2500 for a trip to Bhaktapur. The ride will take about 1.5 to 2 hours depending on traffic and your starting point. The rickshaw will drop you off at the entrance to Bhaktapur, and from there, it is a short walk to Durbar Square.

• Walking

  If you're feeling adventurous and are located relatively close to Bhaktapur, you can opt for a walking route. Starting from the nearest bus station or microbus stop, head east towards Bhaktapur, following the main roads. Use a map application on your mobile device to guide you, as the walk can take several hours (around 3-4 hours). Enjoy the scenic views along the way and take breaks in local villages.
