Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving to Bhaktapur Durbar Square from Kathmandu, take the Araniko Highway (also known as the Kathmandu-Bhaktapur Road). After approximately 12 kilometers, follow the signs directing you to Bhaktapur. As you enter Bhaktapur, keep an eye out for parking areas. There are several paid parking lots available near the square. The parking fee typically ranges from NPR 50 to NPR 100 depending on the duration.

• Public Bus

  To reach Bhaktapur Durbar Square via public transportation, board a bus from the Ratna Park bus station in Kathmandu heading to Bhaktapur. The fare is usually around NPR 50 to NPR 100. Buses run frequently, but be prepared for a journey of about 30 to 40 minutes depending on traffic. Once you arrive at the Bhaktapur bus station, you can either walk (about 20 minutes) or take a local taxi for a short ride (costing around NPR 200) to the square.

• Taxi

  Another option is to hire a taxi from anywhere in Bagmati Province directly to Bhaktapur Durbar Square. This is a more convenient but pricier option. Depending on your starting point in Bagmati Province, the fare may vary significantly, typically ranging from NPR 1000 to NPR 3000. Make sure to agree on the fare before starting your journey.

• Rickshaw

  For a more local experience, you can take a rickshaw from the Bhaktapur bus station to Bhaktapur Durbar Square. The distance is short, and the fare is usually around NPR 100 to NPR 200. This option allows you to experience the local culture and environment as you approach the square.
