Car
If you are driving, head towards Taplejung district. From Biratnagar, take the Mechi Highway (Himalayan Highway) and continue until you reach the junction for Taplejung. Follow the signs towards Taplejung. The road is well-maintained but be prepared for some winding and steep sections as you approach the district. Once in Taplejung, ask locals for directions to Lelep, where the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area is located, approximately 40 km from the town center.
Public Transportation (Bus)
Catch a bus from Biratnagar to Taplejung. Buses leave from the Biratnagar bus station, and the journey takes about 10-12 hours depending on road conditions. Once in Taplejung, you can hire a jeep or a local taxi to Lelep. The fare for the jeep ride can range from NPR 2,500 to NPR 4,000 depending on the season and demand.
Local Transport (Jeep/Taxi)
After reaching Taplejung, you can hire a jeep or taxi to take you to Lelep, which is approximately 40 km away. This ride typically takes 1.5 to 2 hours. Make sure to negotiate the fare beforehand, as prices can vary. Expect to pay around NPR 3,000 to NPR 4,500. It is advisable to book your return trip at the same time to avoid any transportation issues later.

For the adventurous, from Lelep, you can start your trek into the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area. Ensure you have the necessary permits, which can be obtained in Taplejung. Note that hiring a local guide is recommended for safety and navigation. The trek can range from easy to challenging, depending on your chosen routes within the conservation area.
