Car
If you are driving from Terai, head towards the East on the BP Highway. Continue on the BP Highway until you reach the intersection with the Araniko Highway (also known as the Kathmandu-Lhasa Highway). Turn left onto the Araniko Highway and follow the signs towards Bhaktapur. After around 10 km, take the exit towards Bhaktapur and follow the road signs into the city. Once you reach Bhaktapur, look for parking spaces near Durbar Square, as the area is pedestrian-friendly and vehicles are not allowed in the square itself.
Public Transportation (Bus)
To reach Bhaktapur Durbar Square from various locations in Terai, you can take a local or tourist bus to Kathmandu. The fare ranges from NPR 300 to NPR 800 depending on the bus service. Once in Kathmandu, go to the New Bus Park (Kalanki) and find a bus heading to Bhaktapur. The bus fare is approximately NPR 30 to NPR 50. The journey will take about 1-1.5 hours. After arriving in Bhaktapur, it's a short walk to Durbar Square. Follow the signs or ask locals for directions.
Taxi or Ride-Sharing
For a more direct but pricier option, you can hire a taxi or use a ride-sharing app (if available) to go from Terai directly to Bhaktapur. The cost will vary based on your starting point but expect to pay around NPR 3000 to NPR 5000 for the trip. The journey will take about 4-5 hours depending on traffic. Drop-off points are usually close to the city center, from where you can walk to Durbar Square.
