Car
If you have access to a car, start your journey from Jomsom, which is the main town in the Upper Mustang region. Head south on the highway towards Muktinath. The distance is approximately 20 kilometers, and the drive will take around 30-40 minutes, depending on road conditions. Be aware that the road can be rough and bumpy, so a 4WD vehicle is recommended. Keep an eye out for signs directing you to Muktinath, and follow the RV99 road to reach your destination, RV99+5C5, Muktinath 33100.
Public Bus
From Jomsom, you can take a local bus to Muktinath. Buses depart regularly throughout the day and the fare is approximately 200-300 NPR (Nepalese Rupees). The journey takes about 1 hour. Ensure you confirm the bus schedule beforehand as it may vary. The bus will drop you off near the entrance to the Muktinath temple area. From the bus stop, it’s a short walk to the temple.
Taxi
For a more comfortable ride, consider hiring a taxi from Jomsom to Muktinath. The taxi fare is usually around 2000-2500 NPR. The drive takes approximately 30-40 minutes. Ensure you agree on the fare before starting the journey. Taxis can be found at the Jomsom taxi stand or can be arranged through your hotel.
Motorbike Rental
If you are adventurous, consider renting a motorbike in Jomsom to ride to Muktinath. Rental prices typically range from 1000-1500 NPR per day. Follow the same route as cars, using the RV99 road. The ride offers beautiful views of the surrounding landscape, but be cautious of the road conditions, especially if it has rained.
