Car
If you are driving to Bovenwijde, start from the center of Giethoorn. Head south on Beulakerweg towards the Bovenwijde area. Continue straight until you reach the junction where the road forks. Take the left fork to stay on Beulakerweg. After approximately 1.5 kilometers, you will see signs for Bovenwijde. Follow the directional signs. There should be parking available near the nature preserve, but be prepared for potential parking fees, which typically range from €2 to €5 for a few hours.
Public Transportation
To reach Bovenwijde using public transportation, start by taking a local bus from the Giethoorn bus stop, which is located in the town center. Look for bus line 70 or 71, which services the area around Giethoorn. Get off at the 'Bovenwijde' bus stop. The ride takes about 10-15 minutes. Once you disembark, follow the signs towards the nature preserve. There is usually no cost for the bus ride if you have a valid OV-chipkaart, but single tickets may cost around €3-€5.
Walking
If you are already in Giethoorn and prefer to walk to Bovenwijde, head towards the Beulakerweg. Walk south, crossing over the small wooden bridges that Giethoorn is famous for. Continue along the path for about 2 kilometers. As you approach Bovenwijde, you will notice a sign showing the entrance to the nature preserve. This scenic walk will take approximately 25-30 minutes, and it’s a great way to experience the beautiful surroundings of Giethoorn.
