Public Transport
From Groningen Central Station, take the train towards Assen. Trains run frequently, approximately every 30 minutes. The journey takes about 30 minutes. Once you arrive at Assen Station, exit the station and follow the signs towards the bus terminal. From there, take bus line 21 or 22 towards 'Assen, Asserbos'. The bus ride takes about 15 minutes. Get off at the 'Asserbos' stop, and you will find the entrance to the Asserbos National Forest nearby.
Bicycle
If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bike at one of the rental shops in Groningen. Head east on the 'Oosterstraat' towards 'Westerhaven' and follow the bike path to the 'Hoendiepskade'. Continue onto the 'N370' bike path, which leads directly to Assen. The ride will take about 50 minutes, and you will enjoy beautiful views along the way. Upon reaching Assen, follow the signs for the Asserbos, which is well marked.
Walking
Walking from Groningen to Assen is quite a trek, approximately 30 kilometers. If you are up for it, start at the 'Vismarkt' square in Groningen and head south towards the 'N370' road. Follow the path along the 'Hoendiep' river, which will lead you towards Assen. This walk will take around 6-7 hours, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water. As you approach Assen, there will be signs directing you to the Asserbos.

For a more direct route, you can take a taxi from Groningen to Asserbos. Simply call a local taxi service or use a ride-hailing app. The drive will take about 30 minutes, depending on traffic. Just give the driver the name 'Asserbos' or the address 'Assen', and they will take you directly to the entrance of the forest.
