Walking
From the central square in Haarlem, known as the Grote Markt, head towards the main street, Barteljorisstraat. Continue walking straight until you reach the end of the street, where it intersects with the Gedempte Oude Gracht. Turn left and follow the canal until you reach the train station, Haarlem Centraal. At the station, take a train towards Amsterdam. The journey will take approximately 15-20 minutes. Once you arrive at Amsterdam Centraal Station, exit the station and follow the signs towards the IJpromenade, which is located just across the street to the north.
Public Transport - Bus
Start at the Haarlem central bus station located next to the train station, Haarlem Centraal. Look for bus number 300, which goes directly to Amsterdam. Board the bus and enjoy the scenic ride, which takes about 30-40 minutes. The bus will drop you off at a stop close to Amsterdam Centraal Station. From there, follow the signs to IJpromenade, which is just a short walk north of the station.
Bicycle
If you prefer to cycle, you can rent a bike from one of the many rental shops around Haarlem. Start from the Grote Markt and cycle down the Zijlweg, which will lead you out of Haarlem towards the city of Amsterdam. The ride is approximately 20 kilometers and will take about an hour. Follow the signs towards Amsterdam-Noord, and upon reaching the city, head towards the IJpromenade for a beautiful view of the IJ river.
