Walking
From the center of Leiden, head east towards the main train station (Leiden Centraal). Once you reach the station, take a train to Amsterdam Central Station. The train journey takes about 35 minutes. After arriving at Amsterdam Central, exit the station and follow the signs towards the IJ river. Walk northeast along the waterfront, and you will reach the Eastern Docklands area in about 15-20 minutes. Keep an eye out for the modern architecture and waterfront views.
Bicycle
Rent a bicycle from one of the many bike rental shops in Leiden. Start by heading north towards the A4 highway. Follow the bike paths that lead you directly to Amsterdam. Once you reach the Eastern Docklands, enjoy the scenic views of the water and the unique buildings.

From Leiden, take bus line 43 from the Leiden bus station towards Amsterdam. The bus will take you directly to Amsterdam Central Station. After arriving, follow the signs towards the IJ river.
