Train
From Leiden Central Station, purchase a ticket to Zaandam. Board a train heading towards Amsterdam Sloterdijk. The journey takes approximately 35 minutes. Once you arrive at Zaandam Station, exit the station and follow the signs to the bus or taxi stop. For Zaanse Schans, you can take bus line 391, which will take you directly to the Zaanse Schans area. The bus ride will take about 15 minutes.
Bicycle
If you're up for a bike ride, you can rent a bicycle in Leiden. Head towards the N206 road and follow the signs towards Zaandam. The journey is approximately 15 km and will take about 1 hour. Once you arrive in Zaandam, follow the signs for Zaanse Schans, which is well-marked and located near the Zaan River.
Walking and Train
For a more scenic route, you can walk to the nearest train station, Leiden Lammenschans, which is about a 15-minute walk from the city center. From there, take a train to Amsterdam Sloterdijk and change to a train heading to Zaandam. After arriving at Zaandam, exit the station and take bus 391 to Zaanse Schans. This option will take about 1.5 hours in total.
