Public Bus
From Paterson, head to the nearest bus stop on Broadway near City Hall. Take the NJ Transit bus number 190 towards New York Port Authority Bus Terminal. The journey will take approximately 30-40 minutes. Once you arrive at the Port Authority, exit the terminal and walk towards 42nd Street. From there, catch the M42 bus heading east towards the East Side. Get off at 5th Avenue and 59th Street. Walk north on 5th Avenue and enter Central Park. Gapstow Bridge is located near the south end of the park, just a short walk from the south entrance.
Train
Make your way to the Paterson Train Station on Broadway. Take a NJ Transit train on the Main/Bergen County Line towards Hoboken. Get off at the Secaucus Junction station and transfer to a train heading towards New York Penn Station. Once at Penn Station, exit and walk towards 34th Street. Take the subway line 1, 2, or 3 uptown to 42nd Street. From there, walk to the M42 bus stop and take it east towards the East Side. Get off at 5th Avenue and 59th Street. Walk north on 5th Avenue into Central Park, where Gapstow Bridge is located.
Walking
If you are up for a long walk, head towards the Passaic River from downtown Paterson. Follow the river north until you reach the Great Falls National Historical Park. Enjoy the views and continue walking east towards the city limits. From here, you can catch a public bus or continue walking towards the nearest NJ Transit train station to head to New York City. Once in the city, follow the subway directions as described above.
