Pecos River Flume, Carlsbad Caverns Travel Guide

Getting There

• Car

  From Carlsbad Caverns National Park, exit the park and head south on NM-7. Continue for about 8 miles until you reach the intersection with US-62/180. Turn left onto US-62/180 and continue for approximately 10 miles until you reach the city of Carlsbad. Once in Carlsbad, stay on US-62/180 for another 2 miles until you reach the exit for Westridge Rd. Take the exit and turn right onto Westridge Rd. Drive for about half a mile, and you will find Pecos River Flume at 2309 Westridge Rd on your left.

• Public Transportation

  If you are using public transportation, first take the Carlsbad Public Transit bus (Route 1) from the Carlsbad Caverns area to the Carlsbad Transit Center. Once at the Transit Center, transfer to Route 2, which will take you to the nearest stop on Westridge Rd. From there, you will need to walk approximately 0.3 miles west along Westridge Rd to reach Pecos River Flume at 2309 Westridge Rd. Be sure to check the bus schedule for the latest times and any potential fares.

• Bicycle

  For those who prefer cycling, you can rent a bicycle in Carlsbad. Start from Carlsbad Caverns and follow the same route as if you were driving. Take NM-7 south, then turn left onto US-62/180. Once in Carlsbad, navigate to Westridge Rd and head west for about half a mile to reach Pecos River Flume at 2309 Westridge Rd. Make sure to wear a helmet and follow all traffic rules for safety.

• Walking

  If you are in Carlsbad and wish to walk, start at the Carlsbad Transit Center. Head south on S Canal St, then turn left onto W Main St and continue until you reach the intersection with Westridge Rd. Turn right onto Westridge Rd and walk for about a mile. Pecos River Flume will be on your left at 2309 Westridge Rd. This option might take over 30 minutes, so wear comfortable shoes and stay hydrated.
