Car
If you are traveling by car, start by heading south on NM-47 from Los Lunas. Continue on NM-47 for approximately 14 miles until you reach the junction with NM-60. Turn left onto NM-60 and continue for about 12 miles, passing through the small community of Mountainair. Look for signs directing you to the Manzano Mountain Wilderness area. After approximately 5 miles on NM-60, turn right onto Forest Road 252, which will lead you directly into the wilderness area. Make sure to have a map or GPS for navigation as cell service can be limited.

For those using public transportation, take the Greyhound bus to Albuquerque, NM. From Albuquerque, you will need to take a local bus (ABQ RIDE) to the nearest transit hub. From there, you can use a rideshare service (like Uber or Lyft) to reach the Manzano Mountain Wilderness. The rideshare will take you to the entrance of the wilderness area, which is about 35 miles from Albuquerque. Be prepared for potential costs for the rideshare, which can vary based on demand and distance.

Hiking
If you find yourself close enough to the wilderness area, you can also hike in. There are several trails that lead into the Manzano Mountain Wilderness. Make sure to start your hike early in the day and bring plenty of water, as well as a map of the trail. The main trailhead is located at the end of Forest Road 252. If you are coming from nearby campsites or other trails, follow the signage to ensure you stay on the correct path.
