Getting There

  • Walking

    Starting from the central area of Ruidoso, you would head south on Sudderth Drive. Continue walking on Sudderth Drive until you reach the intersection with Mechem Drive. Turn left onto Mechem Drive. Keep walking straight for about 1.5 miles until you reach the intersection with NM-48. Turn right onto NM-48 and follow the road. After approximately 3 miles, you will reach Fort Stanton Historic Site, located at 104 Kit Carson Rd, Fort Stanton, NM 88323. The site will be on your left.

    From Ruidoso, start by heading south on Sudderth Drive. Continue to Mechem Drive and take a left. Cycle along Mechem Drive for about 1.5 miles until you reach NM-48. Turn right onto NM-48 and keep pedaling straight. After about 3 miles on NM-48, you will find Fort Stanton Historic Site on your left at 104 Kit Carson Rd, Fort Stanton, NM 88323. This route is bike-friendly, with bike lanes available.
