Getting There

  • Car

    From the Sandia Peak Tramway parking area, head southwest on Tramway Blvd NE toward the intersection with I-40. Merge onto I-40 W via the ramp to Albuquerque. Continue on I-40 W for about 6 miles. Take exit 157A for 12th St toward Downtown Albuquerque. Merge onto 12th St NW and continue for about 2 miles. Turn left onto Candelaria Rd NW and drive for about 1 mile. The Rio Grande Nature Center State Park will be on your left at 2901 Candelaria Rd NW, Albuquerque, NM 87107. There is no entrance fee for the park.

    From the Sandia Peak Tramway, walk to the nearest bus stop on Tramway Blvd NE. Take the ABQ Ride Bus Route 2 towards the Albuquerque Uptown. Ride for approximately 30 minutes and get off at the stop at Central Ave and 12th St NW. Transfer to Bus Route 66 towards Candelaria Rd. Ride for about 20 minutes, getting off at the stop closest to Candelaria Rd NW. Walk approximately 10 minutes west along Candelaria Rd NW until you reach the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park at 2901 Candelaria Rd NW, Albuquerque, NM 87107. Bus fares are typically around $1 for a single ride.
