From Hunter Mountain, head east on NY-23A. Continue on NY-23A for about 5 miles until you reach the intersection with NY-214. Turn left onto NY-214. Follow NY-214 for approximately 7 miles, which will take you into the heart of the Catskill Mountains. There are several scenic viewpoints and trailheads along the way, so feel free to stop and take in the beautiful surroundings.
Public Transportation
To reach the Catskill Mountains via public transportation, first, you will need to get to the nearest bus station. From Hunter Mountain, take the local bus service to Tannersville. Once in Tannersville, transfer to the Trailways bus line heading towards Shandaken. The bus ride will take approximately 30 minutes. Be sure to check the schedule in advance, as bus services may be limited. Once you arrive in Shandaken, you can explore the Catskills by foot or by using local taxi services.
