Car
From the center of Hunter Mountain, head northeast on Main St toward NY-23A. Continue on NY-23A for approximately 3.5 miles. You will see signs for Indian Head Mountain. Turn left onto the trailhead access road where there is a small parking area. Parking is free but limited, so arrive early to secure a spot.
Public Transportation
Take the Trailways bus service from New York City to Hunter Mountain. Once you arrive at the Hunter Mountain bus stop, you can either walk or take a local taxi to the Indian Head Mountain trailhead. The distance is about 1 mile from the bus stop, and you may need to walk along NY-23A, which doesn’t have a dedicated pedestrian path, so be cautious and aware of traffic.
Hiking
Once you have parked at the trailhead, follow the marked hiking trail for Indian Head Mountain. The trail is approximately 3 miles long and is rated as moderate. Be prepared for a hike that takes about 2-3 hours to reach the summit, and ensure you have appropriate footwear and water.
