Getting There

  • Car

    From Hunter Mountain, start by heading southwest on NY-23A W. Continue on NY-23A W for about 5 miles until you reach the intersection with NY-214 N. Turn right onto NY-214 N and drive for approximately 3 miles. Look for the sign for Elka Park, and turn left onto Elka Park Road. Continue on this road until you reach the parking area for Indian Head Wilderness, which will be on your right.

  • Public Transportation

    From Hunter Mountain, take the local bus service (check local schedules for times) to the nearest stop on NY-23A W. Once you reach the bus stop, you will need to walk to the intersection with NY-214 N (about 1 mile). From there, you can either continue walking along NY-214 N for about 3 miles or try to catch a ride from passing vehicles. Look for the sign for Elka Park and follow Elka Park Road to the parking area for Indian Head Wilderness.
