Car
If you are traveling by car from Hunter Mountain, start by heading west on NY-23A. After about 1.5 miles, take a right onto NY-32A. Continue on NY-32A for approximately 3 miles until you reach the junction with County Route 18 (Kaaterskill Road). Turn left onto County Route 18 and drive for about 1.5 miles. Look for parking at the Kaaterskill High Peak trailhead, which will be on your right. There is no fee for parking.
Public Transportation
If you prefer public transportation, you can take the Trailways bus from New York City to Hunter Mountain. Once you arrive in Hunter, you may need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to the Kaaterskill High Peak trailhead, as public transit options are limited in this area. The approximate cost for a taxi from Hunter to the trailhead is around $15-20. Be sure to check the taxi availability beforehand or consider calling a local taxi service in advance.
Hiking
Once you arrive at the Kaaterskill High Peak trailhead, prepare for a steep hike. The trail is not marked well, so it's advisable to use a GPS device or a hiking app for navigation.
