Car
If you are traveling by car from Hunter Mountain, start on NY-23A E. Continue on NY-23A for about 7 miles until you reach the intersection with NY-28. Turn right onto NY-28 W and follow it for about 9 miles. Look for signs for Slide Mountain and turn left onto County Road 47 (also known as Slide Mountain Road). Follow this road for approximately 3 miles until you reach the Slide Mountain parking area. There is a parking fee of $10 per vehicle, which you can pay at the self-service kiosk.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, start by taking the Trailways bus from Hunter Mountain to Kingston, NY. Buses run regularly, and the fare is approximately $15. From Kingston, you can take Ulster County Area Transit (UCAT) bus #1 towards Pine Hill. Get off at the intersection with NY-28. From there, you can either walk to the Slide Mountain parking area (about a 3-mile walk) or arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to take you to the Slide Mountain parking area. Be aware that taxi services may take longer to arrive, and fares can vary.
Hiking
If you're already at the Slide Mountain parking area, prepare for the hike. The most common trail is the Slide Mountain Trail, which is about 2.5 miles long and can be challenging. Make sure to wear proper hiking shoes, bring plenty of water, and check the weather beforehand. It typically takes about 2 to 3 hours to reach the summit, where you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the Catskills.
