Getting There

  • Car

    If you are driving, head towards Copenhagen, NY. From the center of the town, take County Route 94, heading west. After approximately 3 miles, turn left onto Tug Hill Road. Follow Tug Hill Road for about 5 miles until you reach the entrance to Tug Hill State Forest. Be aware that some roads may be unpaved, so a vehicle with good clearance is recommended. There is no entry fee for the forest.

  • Public Transportation + Car

    For those using public transportation, take a bus to Watertown, NY. From Watertown, you will need to rent a car as public transport does not reach directly to Tug Hill State Forest. Once you have a car, follow the directions provided for driving from Watertown: Take I-81 N to exit 45 for NY-342 toward Carthage. Follow NY-342 until it merges with NY-3. Continue on NY-3 to County Route 94, then proceed to Tug Hill Road as described above.

  • Bicycle

    If you prefer to bike, ensure you are in good physical condition for a long ride. Start in Copenhagen and head west on County Route 94. The road is generally safe for cycling, but be aware of traffic. Follow the same route as cars, taking a left onto Tug Hill Road and biking approximately 5 miles to reach the forest entrance.
