Car
If you are driving from Dunedin city center, head south on Princes Street towards the Octagon. Continue onto State Highway 1, then take the exit towards State Highway 88. Follow the signs for Port Chalmers. After about 13 km, turn right onto Tunnel Beach Road. Continue down Tunnel Beach Road until you reach the end of the road where a small parking area is available. There is no fee for parking.

Public Transportation
You can take the bus from Dunedin city center to the Tunnel Beach area. Look for the bus route that goes towards South Dunedin. Get off at the nearest stop to Tunnel Beach Road. From there, it is about a 15-20 minute walk to the Tunnel Beach track entrance. Be aware that the bus service may not run frequently, so check the local bus schedule in advance. The bus fare will typically be around NZD 2-5 depending on your journey.

Once you have parked your car or arrived by bus, you will need to walk approximately 15 minutes down Tunnel Beach Road to reach the trailhead. The walk is downhill, so be prepared for a slight uphill trek on your return.

After reaching the Tunnel Beach track entrance, you can begin your hike. The track is approximately 1.5 km one way and leads you down to the beach through stunning coastal scenery. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and take water with you.
