If you're traveling by car, start from Dunedin and take State Highway 1 (SH1) heading south towards Balclutha. Continue on SH1 for approximately 90 kilometers until you reach Balclutha. From Balclutha, turn onto State Highway 8 (SH8) towards Lawrence. After about 38 kilometers, turn left onto State Highway 1 again towards Milton. Continue on SH1 until you see signs for Owaka, where you will turn onto Owaka Valley Road. Follow this road until you reach the Cathedral Caves car park, which is located about 10 minutes’ drive from Owaka. The total drive time from Dunedin is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. Note that there is a parking fee of NZD 5 at the car park.
