Getting There

  • Walking

    From the center of Paihia, head towards the Paihia Wharf. Walk along the waterfront promenade until you reach the end of the beach. Continue straight onto Marsden Road, which will lead you out of the town center. Follow Marsden Road until you reach the intersection with Bayview Road. Turn left onto Bayview Road and continue walking until you reach the intersection with Oromahoe Road. Turn right onto Oromahoe Road and continue walking for about 2 kilometers. You will see the trailhead for the Opua Kauri Walk on your left.

  • Bus

    From Paihia, go to the Bay of Islands i-SITE Visitor Information Centre located on Williams Road. Here you can catch a local bus heading towards Opua. Ensure you inform the driver that you are heading to the Opua Kauri Walk. The bus will take you along State Highway 11, and you will need to get off at the stop nearest to Oromahoe Road. From there, walk approximately 1 kilometer down Oromahoe Road to reach the trailhead for the Opua Kauri Walk.

  • Bicycle

    If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bike from one of the rental shops in Paihia. Start your journey by heading towards the Paihia Wharf, then follow the same route as if you were walking: head along Marsden Road until you reach Bayview Road. Continue to the intersection with Oromahoe Road, turn right, and ride for about 2 kilometers until you see the trailhead for the Opua Kauri Walk on your left.
