Walking
If you are in Tauranga city center, head towards the waterfront on The Strand. Walk along The Strand until you reach the intersection with Willow Street. Continue straight onto Willow Street, and cross over the bridge towards the Tauranga Marina. Follow the path leading along the waterfront, which will lead you to the scenic Te Papa o Nga Manu Porotakataka Wildlife Refuge. Continue walking along the waterfront path until you reach the entrance to the Waikareao Estuary. The estuary is well-marked and is a great place to enjoy the views and wildlife.

Public Transport
From Tauranga city center, you can catch a bus towards Greerton. Board the bus at the nearest bus stop on The Strand. Ask the driver to let you know when to get off at the Greerton stop, which is close to the entrance of the Waikareao Estuary. Once you get off, walk towards the estuary, following the signs pointing you to the waterfront. This route gives you a chance to see some local neighborhoods before enjoying the natural beauty of the estuary.

If you prefer cycling, rent a bike from one of the local rental shops in Tauranga. Start from the city center and head towards The Strand, then follow the same path as the walking directions. There are dedicated bike lanes along the waterfront. Continue along the path until you arrive at the Waikareao Estuary. You can enjoy the scenic views and possibly spot some local wildlife along the way.
