Car
If you're traveling by car, start on State Highway 1 (SH1) from your location in Waikato. Follow SH1 until you reach the Ngāruawāhia exit. Take the exit towards Ngāruawāhia and merge onto Great South Road. Continue straight onto Hakarimata Road, which will lead you to the Hakarimata Scenic Reserve. The designated parking area is located at the end of Hakarimata Road. The drive typically takes about 30 minutes from Hamilton.

Public Transportation
For public transportation, take a bus from Hamilton to Ngāruawāhia. Buses run regularly, and you can catch them from the Hamilton Transport Centre. Once you arrive in Ngāruawāhia, you may need to take a taxi or a rideshare service to reach the Hakarimata Scenic Reserve, as public transport does not go directly to the trailhead. This taxi ride will take around 10-15 minutes and may cost around NZD 15-25.

After parking at the Hakarimata Scenic Reserve, follow the well-marked walking path. The trail to the Hakarimata Summit Tower is approximately 2.5 kilometers (1.5 miles) and is moderately challenging. Be prepared for a steep ascent, and allow about 1-1.5 hours to reach the summit. The path is well-maintained, and as you climb, you'll be rewarded with stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
