Getting There

Walking
If you are starting from the Whangarei i-SITE Visitor Centre located at 7 Rust Avenue, head south on Rust Avenue towards Bank Street. Turn left onto Bank Street and walk until you reach the intersection with Walton Street. Continue straight onto Walton Street, passing several local shops and cafes. After about 10 minutes of walking, you will reach the Town Basin area on your left, which is marked by a beautiful waterfront.

From the Whangarei Art Museum located at 7a Reyburn Street, exit the museum and head towards the end of Reyburn Street. Turn right onto the main road (Harris Street), and follow this road for about 5 minutes. You will see signs directing you to the Town Basin. Continue walking until you reach the waterfront area, which is a prominent feature of the Town Basin.

If you are near the Whangarei Growers Market, start by heading south on James Street. Take a left onto Robert Street and continue walking straight for about 15 minutes. You will pass through several parks and residential areas before reaching the Town Basin. Look for the signs indicating the waterfront, and you will find the Town Basin at the end of your walk.

From the Whangarei Quarry Gardens, exit the gardens and head towards the main road (Nixon Street). Turn left and walk down Nixon Street for approximately 20 minutes. Keep an eye out for the Town Basin signs as you approach the waterfront. The Basin is a scenic area with walking paths and views of the harbor.
