Experience Agualí Biological Station

Getting There

  • Car

    From Matagalpa, take the main road towards Jinotega (Carretera a Jinotega). After approximately 3 kilometers, look for the sign for Reserva Natural Apante. Turn left onto the dirt road. Continue on this road for about 1.5 kilometers. You will see a sign for Agualí Biological Station; follow the road until you reach the parking area of the station. This route has no tolls, but some sections of the dirt road may require a vehicle with good clearance.

  • Public Transportation

    In Matagalpa, head to the main bus terminal and look for buses heading to Jinotega. The fare is typically around 20-30 Nicaraguan córdobas. Inform the driver that you want to get off at the turn-off for Reserva Natural Apante. After about 30 minutes, you will reach the turn-off. From there, you can either walk (approximately 30 minutes) or hire a local taxi to take you the remaining 1.5 kilometers to Agualí Biological Station.

  • Taxi

    If you prefer a more direct route, you can hire a taxi from anywhere in Matagalpa. The fare should be negotiated beforehand, but expect to pay around 150-200 córdobas for the trip to Agualí Biological Station. The taxi will take you straight to the entrance of the station.
