Getting There

  • Public Bus

    Start at the Boone Town Hall, located at 567 W King St. Take the AppalCart bus (Route B) towards Blowing Rock. Stay on the bus until you reach the stop at the intersection of Blowing Rock Highway and Grandfather Mountain entrance. From the bus stop, walk approximately 0.2 miles down the Blowing Rock Highway, and you will see the entrance to Grandfather Mountain on your right.

  • Bike

    If you have access to a bicycle, start at the Boone Greenway Trailhead, which is near the Watauga County Library. Follow the Greenway Trail until you reach the intersection with Blowing Rock Highway (US-321). Turn left onto the highway and ride approximately 3.5 miles. Grandfather Mountain will be on your left side. Be cautious of traffic as you ride along the highway.

  • Walking

    For an adventurous walk, start at the Appalachian State University campus, located at 287 Rivers St. Head north on Rivers St and take a left onto Blowing Rock Highway (US-321). Continue walking for about 3.5 miles along the highway, taking care to stay on the shoulder. Grandfather Mountain will appear on your left. This walk offers beautiful scenery, but please ensure you have proper footwear and stay hydrated.
