To reach Cape Hatteras Lighthouse from Foothills, North Carolina, start by getting onto US-64 E. Follow US-64 E for approximately 70 miles until you reach the town of Manteo. In Manteo, merge onto NC-12 S (the Virginia Dare Memorial Bridge) which will take you across the Roanoke Sound and onto Bodie Island. Continue on NC-12 S for about 26 miles until you reach the town of Buxton. The lighthouse is located at 46379 Lighthouse Rd, Buxton, NC 27920. There is no entrance fee to access the lighthouse grounds.

If you prefer public transportation, you can take the Outer Banks Public Transportation (OBX Bus) from various locations in the Foothills area. However, this service may have limited schedules. Ensure you check the OBX Bus schedule online. You will need to take the bus to Nags Head and then transfer to the route heading south to Hatteras Island. The bus will drop you off near Buxton, and from there, it is a short walk (approximately 0.5 miles) to Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.
