Getting There

• Car

  From the Mountain Region, head east on US-221 N toward I-40 E. Merge onto I-40 E and continue for about 50 miles. Take exit 386 to merge onto US-64 E toward Williamston. Continue on US-64 E for about 70 miles until you reach the town of Nags Head. From Nags Head, take NC-12 N toward Corolla. Follow NC-12 N for approximately 30 miles until you reach Corolla. Once in Corolla, turn onto Corolla Village Rd. The Currituck Beach Lighthouse will be on your right at 1101 Corolla Village Rd, Corolla, NC 27927.

• Public Transportation

  If you prefer public transportation, you can take a bus from the Mountain Region to a larger city such as Asheville or Raleigh. From Asheville, you can take a Greyhound or a local shuttle service to the Outer Banks region. Once you arrive at the Outer Banks, you can use local taxi services or rideshare apps (like Uber or Lyft) to reach Corolla. Be aware that public transportation options might require multiple transfers, and schedules can vary. It's advisable to check the latest schedules and routes ahead of your trip.

• Bicycle

  For the adventurous, consider cycling to the lighthouse. From the Mountain Region, follow US-221 N to I-40 E, and then take NC-12 N. Ensure you have proper gear and plan for breaks, as this is a lengthy journey that spans over 130 miles. Note that cycling along NC-12 can be challenging due to traffic, so it's best to ride during off-peak hours.
