If you are traveling by car within Badlands National Park, head east on SD-240 from the park's entrance. Continue on SD-240 until you reach the junction with US-34. Turn right onto US-34 and follow it until you reach the town of De Smet. Once in De Smet, turn left onto Homestead Rd. Drive approximately 2 miles, and you will find Ingalls Homestead on your right at 20812 Homestead Rd, De Smet, SD 57231. This route is about a 1 to 1.5-hour drive depending on traffic and road conditions.

For those using public transportation, you will first need to reach the nearest major city with bus services, such as Sioux Falls, SD. From Sioux Falls, you can take a Greyhound bus to De Smet. Once in De Smet, you can either walk or call a local taxi service to take you to Ingalls Homestead, which is approximately 2 miles from the bus station. Be sure to check bus schedules in advance and consider any additional costs for taxi services.

If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bike in the Badlands area. From the park, follow the same route as for cars: head east on SD-240, then turn right onto US-34 towards De Smet.
