Getting There

  • Public Transportation

    Begin your journey at the Bismarck City Center. Look for the bus stop at 5th St & Main Ave. Board Bus Route 1 (Bismarck-Mandan route) towards Mandan. After approximately 30 minutes, get off at the stop near the intersection of 3rd Ave NW & Main St in Mandan. From there, transfer to Bus Route 2 towards Washburn. After about 20 minutes, you will arrive at the stop closest to Fort Mandan Overlook State Historic Site.

  • Biking

    From downtown Bismarck, start at the Bismarck Riverwalk. Follow the trail along the Missouri River heading north. After about 5 miles, you will reach the point where the trail starts to veer towards the west. Continue following the river path until you reach the intersection with Unnamed Road. Turn right onto Unnamed Road, and after a short distance, you will arrive at Fort Mandan Overlook State Historic Site.

    If you are feeling adventurous and want to walk, start from the Bismarck Civic Center. Head north on 7th St towards E Main Ave. Continue walking straight until you reach 3rd St, then turn left. Follow 3rd St until you reach Memorial Hwy. Cross over to the other side of the highway and continue walking straight for about 3 miles. You will see signs for Fort Mandan Overlook State Historic Site along the way.
