Walking
From the center of Cavalier, head south on Main Street towards 4th Street. Continue walking straight for about 0.5 miles until you reach the intersection with Highway 5. Turn left onto Highway 5 and continue walking for approximately 3 miles. After reaching the outskirts of town, you will notice a sign for Fort Mandan Overlook State Historic Site. Follow the signs, and after walking for another 1.5 miles, you will find the entrance to the site on your right.

Starting from the Cavalier City Park, head south on 5th Avenue and take a right onto Highway 5. Keep cycling along Highway 5 for about 3.5 miles. You will pass by a few local farms and open fields. Look for the Fort Mandan Overlook State Historic Site sign on your right-hand side. Once you see the sign, continue for another mile until you reach the entrance of the site.
