If you're starting from the main entrance of Little Missouri National Grassland, head west on State Highway 94 towards Medora. Continue on Highway 94 for about 10 miles until you reach the junction with Highway 85. Turn south (left) onto Highway 85 and follow it for approximately 5 miles. As you approach Medora, look for signs indicating the Petrified Forest Loop. Turn onto Petrified Forest Road and follow it to the parking area. The trailhead for the loop will be clearly marked.

While there are limited public transportation options directly into Little Missouri National Grassland, you can take a Greyhound bus to Medora, which is the nearest town. Once you arrive at the Medora bus station, you can either rent a car or take a taxi to the Petrified Forest Loop. The distance from Medora to the loop is about 3 miles, and you can provide the driver with the address: Medora, ND 58645. Ensure you check the bus schedule in advance as services may vary.
