Car
From any point within Theodore Roosevelt National Park, head west on ND-200 W. Continue on ND-200 W for approximately 60 miles until you reach the junction with US-83 S. Take the exit to merge onto US-83 S toward Bismarck. Follow US-83 S for about 30 miles. Take the exit toward Washburn and merge onto ND-36 S. After about 10 miles, turn right onto 28th Ave SW. Fort Mandan State Historic Site will be on your right at 838 28th Ave SW, Washburn, ND 58577. There is no entry fee for the site but check for any potential costs for guided tours.

If you are using public transportation, take a bus from Medora to Bismarck, which runs several times a week. Once in Bismarck, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to take you to Fort Mandan. The distance from Bismarck to Fort Mandan is about 50 miles and will take approximately 1 hour by car. Expect to pay around $60-$100 for a taxi service depending on the provider.
